STAAR REVIEW April 2-15

INTEGRATED PHYSICS AND CHEMISTRY(IPC)

a high school credit science course

Students will learn concepts in chemistry and physics, such as force, motion, properties of matter, energy transformations, changes in matter, waves, and chemistry. They will also demonstrate an understanding of the nature of science using inquiry-based instruction.

Semester 1
Unit 1 will cover safety, the scientific method, the periodic table, nomenclature, atomic structure , physical and chemical properties/changes and chemical equations.

Unit 2 - Nomenclature, Bonding, Solution Chemistry, pH and polymers.

Semester 2 - Science Fair, force and motion, earth and space science, ecology, body systems, energy, waves, electricity and magnetism.

Melissa Gallegos, Jonathan Cantrell, Thomas Motard and Steven Zhou-Wright competed at the Science and Engineering Fair of Houston - Congratulations
IPC Students are now working on an experimental design that could go up in the ISS. Go to http://ssep.ncesse.org/ for details.

About Mrs. Broz

Hello Students and Parents,

I am a native Houstonian and a graduate of Stephen F. Austin State University. Before becoming a teacher I was a Medical Technologist at The Methodist Hospital, working in blood banking and microbiology. This is my 13th year as an HISD science teacher, and my third year teaching IPC. My hobbies include traveling, camping , hiking, swimming, photography and reading. I have 2 sons ages 23 and 20. My oldest son is a graduate of UNT, he majored in math and minored in music (cello).  He is currently in the Ukraine as a Peace Corps volunteer. My younger son is an art major at U of H and an excellent guitar player. He is an ex-Pershing Panda. My husband, a native of the Czech Republic, works in the medical center and recently published his first book.  I am looking forward to teaching and learning together with my science scholars.
