Cluster 8-3 Welcomes you to the 2008-2009 School Year Cluster 8-3 Calendar
August 25, 2008
MISSION STATEMENT Our mission is to unite students, teachers and parents in working as a team toward the mental, physical and emotional success of every child.
Dear Parents, Welcome to the 2008-09 school year. We are very excited to have your child in cluster 8-3, which consists of about 150 students, five academic teachers, and one extra homeroom teacher. As teachers, we will meet several times per week to discuss student progress. You can be involved in your child’s success by monitoring his/her agenda, contacting us by phone or e-mail and scheduling conferences, which we hold on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1:15-1:50 p.m.
PROGRESS: During each six week marking period, you will receive two reports of your child’s progress. Progress reports are sent home at the three-week mark, and report cards go home at the end of the six weeks. Check your child’s agenda for the exact dates these documents go home. Please sign each and have your child return it to his/her homeroom teacher the next morning.
TESTS: Test days will be flexible because of block scheduling. The cluster will work together to schedule tests fairly. Test days will be noted on the monthly calendar, which will be sent home with each child at the beginning of the month, starting in September. This same calendar is posted on our cluster website.
DISCIPLINE: All students are expected to follow the Pershing Code of Conduct. Consequences for minor disciplinary infractions will be dealt with by the teacher and/or cluster. More severe cases will be addressed according to the level of offense as per HISD guidelines.
TARDIES: Being on time to class is imperative! Students are expected to be IN THE CLASSROOM when the bell rings. Any tardiness will be dealt with by the teacher and/or cluster. Excessive tardiness will be referred to the deans’ office.
HOMEWORK and CLASS WORK: Individual teachers will assign homework and/or class work, and students are expected to write down these assignments in their agenda, which they should take home everyday. Your child will have homework EVERY night and will have no time to complete it during the school day. If your child loses his/her agenda, a new one may be purchased at the school store.
MAKE-UP WORK (missed work due to an absence from school): Cluster 8-3 follows the make-up policy for excused absences found in the agenda.
LATE WORK (work turned in late because it wasn‘t completed or it was forgotten the day it was due): Cluster 8-3 follows the school-wide late work policy as described in the student agenda.
