PERSHING MIDDLE SCHOOL WRITERS’ WORKSHOP SYLLABUS 7000 BRAES • Houston, TX 77025 • 713.295.5240 • Erica Moody, Cluster 6-2 A writer’s workshop is a meeting of writers, for the purpose of honing their craft. Specific topics will be discussed (such as technique of written works), and new works may be presented for critiquing by peers, and by the teacher who is referred to as the mentor writer. I believe that writers’ workshop is a more beneficial style to learn the importance of writing and to have the ability to retain the information given for a life time. Writer’s workshop is merely a strategic style and provides the concepts and framework of writing in an individualized way. We will study different writing techniques, styles and the proper use of grammar through literature. We will also write response to current events. I expect for the students to eventually pick up their writer’s notebook at any given time to capture a “snap shot” that is flowing through their mind. All “snap shots” can then be turned into writing pieces that the student would want to publish. All pieces will be considered successfully published once they are presented at our writer’s celebrations.
