Important Dates

Months of February-March

It is now Mid-February and we are wrapping up our unit on the Republic of Texas.  Our unit test will be Monday, February 13 (for A-Day classes) and Tuesday, February 14 (for B-Day classes).

Next up, we are diving into the Civil War unit, which will take us through Spring Break.  Following the Civil War (and at the end of March) we will be transitioning into Texas Government!

  • February 13-24 - Vocabulary, Causes and Events leading up to the Civil War, Texas in the Civil War.
  • February 27-March 9 - The Civil War key battles, events, turning points, strategies, etc.
  • Just before Spring Break, look for a Texas History benchmark--it will cover everything from the Empresarios, the Texas Revolution, the Republic of Texas, and the Civil War.

**Students will be subjected to quizzes on a daily/weekly basis.

  • Periods 4, 8 - Quizzes daily at the end of notes.
  • Periods 1, 3, 6, 7 - Quizzes will be at the end of each chapter.

    Important Class Information

    • Class Preparation - Students should come prepared with a binder or notebook each day, as well as a pen and pencil.
    • Tutorials - 8:00-8:30 (Tuesday/Wednesday mornings) or by appointment
    • Homework

      • Reviewing your notes every day for 5-10 minutes is your homework on a regular basis.

      • GT - Students have daily wrap-up activities following a lesson. Most homework and classwork is placed inside your interactive notebook.  Keeping up with these assignments as they are assigned is the best way to ensure a good grade and assurance that you know the material.

      • Non-GT - Most work is completed in class.  However, if students have not finished a daily assignment, it is their responsibility to take the assignment home and finish it before the next class.  Reviewing notes 5-10 minutes daily is a great way to ensure the material is fresh in their minds.

    • Quizzes

      • Students are subject to pop quizzes and scheduled quizzes on a weekly basis.  As long as you are reviewing your notes and paying attention in class, you will achieve success on the class quizzes.  If you do not understand something the first time, ask Ms. Steffek.  Believe me, we all cannot master a concept on the first try.  That is okay.  I am a resource; that's why I am here.  No question or concern is stupid, so do not be afraid to ask.
