Mission Statement:  The mission of Pershing Middle School is to educate all students in a safe, enriched, learning environment, to become responsible, productive citizens in an ever-changing society.

READING AND WRITING WORKSHOP

The purpose of reading and writing workshop is to promote literacy in the classroom by focusing on text and promoting the love of reading and writing through meaningful interactions with the written word.

EXPECTATIONS:  Students will arrive on time, prepared with required materials and/or supplies, and ready to succeed!  Consequences for persistent tardiness are as follows: 1st - Warning, 2nd-Detention, 3rd-Referral to Dean. 

CLASSROOM LIBRARY:  A classroom supply of books are available for students to checkout.  Students must follow the classroom library checkout procedures.  It is the responsibility of each child to keep up with their books.  Books that are lost, stolen, or damaged must be replaced by the student.  There is a two week check out policy.  If a student wishes  to renew a book, they must contact the classroom librarian before the book becomes due. 

TUTORIALS:  Tutorials are held after school on Tuesdays, from 3:55 - 4:30 p.m., in room 133.   Students who are experiencing difficulty in understanding concepts covered during class, are encouraged to attend tutorials.  Students should notify me prior to attendance to discuss problem areas and material that need to be covered.

DETENTION:  Detentions are held the 2nd and 4th Thursday of each month, from 3:55 - 4:30 p.m., in room 133.  During detention, students will remain quiet at all times.  Students will work on any class assignment, homework, missing work, projects, etc. that are due.  A book MUST be brought to detention.
