Language Arts:  Cluster 6 – 1

Welcome:

It is an exciting time for our sixth graders and new Pandas.

We are embarking on a journey titled “ Reader/Writer Workshop”. 

This is a very student centered program.  The goal of this program is to increase student confidence and academic success in reading and writing. 

Some expectations:

v    You will choose books that are interesting to you and that you understand.

v    You will enhance your reading life by reading a variety of books, short stories, and articles from a variety of genres.

v    You will read daily at school and at home.

v    You will write daily about things that are important to you.

v    You will participate in conferences with me to assess your progress.

v    You will keep an up- to- date reading log in your literacy notebook.

Supplies:

1  – 3 subject spiral

1- 1 subject or composition notebook ( to be used for your writer’s journal )

post-it-notes ( various sizes)

black/blue pens

USB flash drive  - ( 1 GB should last through 8^th grade )

WISH LIST

Bean bags

Floor pillows

Floor rockers

Gently used books
