Today, March 10, PJE attended the Annual Blinn College Jazz Festival and recieved a First Division rating and “Best Middle School of the Day”. Students also brought home “Outstanding Musician” certificates, these students are: Trenton Alcee (Trombone), Damond Mills (trumpet), Corey Morris (trombone), and Elijah Micheaux (trumpet). Another student, Quban Hall (alto sax), brought home the “Outstanding Soloist” trophy. Judges really enjoyed PJE’s style and energy. This is PJE’s 3rd year recieving these honors at the Blinn College Jazz Fest.

This past Saturday at Annual Waltrip High School Jazz Festival the Pershing Jazz Ensemble (PJE) competed against five other middle school jazz ensembles and recieved a first division as well as Best Middle School Jazz Ensemble of the Day. Some students received awards as well as recognition for their improvisational skills. The students that received awards were Quban Hall (alto sax) and Elijah Micheaux (trumpet). The students that received “Honorable Mention” were Jason Haas (piano), Myles Campbell (congas), and Trenton Alcee (trombone).
PJE’s next performance is in Brenham, Texas at Blinn College on March 10.
Dear Band Parents,
Here is a reminder about S&E on Saturday. All music that is to be given to the judges, must have all measures numbered in pencil. Performance location: Johnston Middle School 10410 Manhattan Dr. Houston, TX 77096. All students will go to the cafeteria to warm-up. All must be there 45 minutes before performance to warm up. Dress attire is formal. No tennis shoes or jeans. Please have them look there best as though they are going to a wedding or church. Presentation is everything.
The Jazz Ensemble performed Saturday, March 6 at the HISD Jazz Festival and took home a First Division trophy, a Best In Class trophy, and three Outstanding Musician Awards. These outstanding Musicians are Travis Bibbs, Quban Hall, and Lawrence Garvin.
On November 7, 2009 students from the Pershing Band program auditioned against HISD, Katy, and Aleif schools to be a part of the “great” Region Band. Two of our students created another victory for the Pershing Band Program. These students are Jason Weilee (trombone), who will also perform with the Region symphony Orchestra on saturday November 21 5pm at Morton Ranch High School and Jordan Janis (F-Horn) who made “District”. Congratulations to both of them of their success. The region Band concert will be held December 5 at Aleif Taylor High School.
On October 24, 2009 students from the Pershing Band auditioned for the HISD All-City Band. These students competed against other HISD schools creating another victory for Pershing Middle School. the following students will perform in the All-City Band representing Pershing: Jason Weilee- trombone, Anthony Foote- trombone, Trenton Alcee- trombone (Alternate), Travis Bibbs- tenor sax, Caitlin Start- Oboe, Margaret Obot- Bass Clarinet, Katelyn Christie- Baritone, James Garcia- clarinet, Grace Swart- clarinet, Frank Gonzalez- clarinet, Jacob Helpinstill- percussion, Jordan Janis- F-horn, and Rebecca Chen- flute. These students worked very hard for the positions they recieved. The All-city Band will perform January 23, 2010 5:30pm at Chavez High School 8501 Howard houston, Tx 77017
The Band will have its Winter Concert Wednesday December 2, 2009 at 7pm in the Pershing Auditorium. All Band students will be in Semi-formal dress attire for the concert, so that means no tennis shoes or jeans. All students are to report to the Band Room by 6:30pm. The Bands to perform will be Beginning Band, Jazz Band, Symphonic Band, and Wind Ensemble. The cost is free.
