Talent Show Search Begins – If you have a special talent, make sure you audition for our annual Talent Show.  The show is on April 12 and auditions will be Apr. 2 & 3 from 4 – 6  PM.  Bring your solo or group acts to the audition and YOU may be chosen to show off your talent and be in Pershing’s Talent Show!  Sign-up sheets will be posted by Mr. Wurtzel’s room 106.

Meet in the Middle Members – there is a short meeting after school today at 3:50 in room 116 before we begin our bake sale.  Ms Smith

Congratualtions to the Jazz Ensemble for the FOURTH CONSECUTIVE  1st Place win at Blinn College yesterday.

Drama Classes – All of Ms. Broadhead’s and Mr. Drisdale’s 3rd period class- please learn some of your lines over Spring Break.

Girl’s Lacrosse Team- Congratulations on your amazing victory over Lanier yesterday with a score of 14 to 3.  Keep up the great work!

7th Graders – NJHS ( Nat’l Junior Honor Society) applications are due Wed., March 21 by 4 PMto Ms. Vaclavik’s room 230.  Please make sure you have copies of your 6th and 7th grade report cards.  Good luck!

GIRLS  LacrosseTeam – defeated the Pin Oak team on our home field yesterday.  Please take the time to come and see the girls in their last game, this Thurs. at 5 PM.  Help support the girls as they try and continue their winning streak against Lanier.

Algebra Benchmark test is today for those taking Algebra now.  Report to your advisory first.  Bring your graphing calculator (if you have one) and a pencil to the library.  Ms. Richardson

Spanish Book Club meets every Tuesday at 8 AM in room 202.  We read and speak in Spanish.  Get your pass from Ms. Parsons-Lopez in room 202.  All 6th, 7th & 8th graders are welcome.  This club is for native speaker students, as well as non-native speakers.  No meeting on March 27 because of testing. 

Great job 7th and 8th Grade girls track team.   8th grade team – Our 4 x 100 relay won first place as well as Jade Robinson in the 200 receiving a 1st place and Christine Njoku in the 4500 receiving 1st place.  Meagan Walker won 2nd place in the 800.  Awesome job ladies!    7th Grade team – Our 4 x 100 team won 1st  as well as Jada Wyatt winning 1st in the 800 and 1200.  Destinee Hamilton won the 400 and the 4 x 100 relay team also came in 1st. and Jada Gilbert won the 200.  In field events, Vanecia Foley won 2nd in the long jump.  The 7th grade girls won the meet overall as a team.   GREAT JOB LADY PANDAS!

ALL 6th grade Native Spanish Speaker must turn in your orange application this week to room 202, Ms Parsons-Lopez.  Students will be tested March 22 or 23 during your PE/elective class.  Do NOT miss out on an chance to earn 2 to 4 high school credits.  You will NOT be allowed to wait and enroll next year..

7th & 8th graders interested in joining the Paintball Club – the first trip to Paintball Bonanza will be on Sat., March 31.  If you are interested, please see Mr Abbott this week after school in room 343, to get the information packet and paperwork .  The cost of this event will be $40.00 and is limited to the first 24 students who submit the completed paperwork and money.  You must be passing all your classes and have no more than 2 S’s and NO P’s ion conduct to participate.

8th grade students – don’t forget about Math STAAR tutorials – come today after school with you Math teacher.  Also, join us at STAAR Basics Camp this Sat. from 8:30 – 12:00.

Don’t forget to bring your camera and stop by the West U Library after school on Friday, March 9 to have your picture taken with 4 sumo wrestlers from Japan.  There are making a one day stop in Texas.

All 8th graders – don’t forget the STAAR Math tutorials tomorrow from 7:45 – 8:30 and 3:50 – 4:40.  Also, make sure to come to the STARR Basics Camp this Sat. from 8:30 – 12:00.  Get extra credit, win a door prize and even get a free dress pass.  If you need another permission slip to attend Sat., stop by Ms. Bigelow’s room 229 to pick one up.

A big SHOUT OUT goes to all of the students that camoe on Saturday to the STARR Basics Camp.  8th graders – if you need an extra copy of the invitation, stop by Ms. Bigelow’s room 229.  Special thank you to Mr. Taft and student teacher, Mr. Forney.  Winner for the attendance door prize is Shaikha Alduweesh, from Ms. Harrison’s math class.

Odessy of the Mind Team members – congratulations to the Pershing teams that competed this past Saturday at the Houston Area Regional Tournament.  The teams performed fantastic long-term problem solutions and have been working hard to make it this far.  There will be practice on Thursday after school to prepare for the state-wide tournament.  Mr Darden

Reminder:  The Spanish Dept. is accepting applications for the Native Speaker Spanish class for next year.  To qualify, you MUST:   1)  Speak Spanish    2)  Understand Spanish    3)  Read & write in Spanish     4)  Be a 6th grader.  You may pick up the application in Ms. Parsons-Lopez’s room, room 202.  This allows you to receive a high school credit for 7th grade & one for 8th grade.  Students who are in 6th grade but are beginners, will be placed in Spanish I regular class.  These applications are for Native Speakers of Spanish.

Congratulations to the Jazz Ensemble for the FIRST DIVISION RATING at teh Waltrip Jazz Fest.  Three performers were recognized for their outstanding performance – Christian Burgs on percussion,  Brandon Barnes on trumpet,  and  Jason Haas on piano.  Their next performance will be this Thursday at Blinn College.

8th Grade Girls – if you plan to attend Bellaire or Madison and or interested in drill or dance team, stop by the dance room and pick up an information packet.  Madison Dance Team Tryouts are March 9 and Tryout Clinic dates are this week, Monday – Thurs. at 4 PM.  Bellaire Emotions Dance Team Auditions in modern and hip-hop/break dance will be in April – date to be announced.    Bellaire JV Cheerleader Squad is new this year.  Their applications are due by March 30.  You may also log on to the HISD website to find out more information about auditions for high schools.  Ms. Schroeder

Meet and greet  REAL Sumo Wrestlers from Japan that are visiting Texas for one day only on March 9.  Stop bu the West U library after school on March 9.  Bring your camera to take pictures with the 4 sumo wrestlers.

Meet in the Middle Special Announcement – March 7 is National Awareness for Spread the Word to End the Word.  Have you ever heard someone call another person a name like stupid, ugly or have you ever been the one to say “You are so dumb”?  Well, a lot of us are guilty of this but it is time for a change.  This message is from Ms. Smith, your friendly “Meet in the Middle” sponsor – and I would like all Pershing Parents and Pandas to use words to uplift NOT bring down.  I need your help to SPREAD the Word to END the Word.  Come by room 116 on Mar. 2 – Mar. 7 to sign the petition to “Erase the R Word”.
